January 31, 2019. Yalambojoch, Guatemala. At the primary school which Felipe attended, over 200 students study each day in the center of town. Locals site grinding poverty and lack of opportunity as the principal reason that many residents every year, and in 2018 more than ever, make the journey north to search for work in the US. Among many who made that journey was 8 year old Felipe Gomez Alonzo, along with his father. Felipe died of Influenza B on Christmas Eve in ICE custody in New Mexico after making the journey with his father. His mother, grandmother and sister recently buried his remains after it was sent back to his home.

After a major ICE raid at the Southeastern Provisions slaughterhouse in Bean Station, TN, the latino community in the surrounding area of Morristown and Grainger County has been deeply affected by fear, job loss, and deportations of family members or pending deportation proceedings.

She had to quit soccer because she works nights and weekends now whenever she's not in school at a local mechanic shop. Several of her brothers are gang members and she says they live in constant fear that the family will be attacked by police. She says she fears the police more than any other gang.

Nov 16, 2018. La Libertad Honduras. Alexander watches TV in his basement room. 20 year Alexander Ulloa has just returned to Honduras, the country where he was born, after being twice deported from the US where his parents and brother now live in Long Island.

December 8, 2018. Huntington, NY. When Alexander was in ICE detention, his mother, believing he would be released, packed a plastic bag full of his favorite clothes, his house keys, and headphones, to be ready when he got out.

On the road between Nebaj and Huehuetenango, near the border of Guatemala and Mexico, a burning garbage dump on the side of the road is the home and work place to local children, many of them orphans, as well as a few adults who care for them, and a large flock of vultures.

February 3, 2019. Huehuetenango, Guatemala. At the wake for Mateo Perez Marcos, 44, who died in a car accident in Tennessee. His remains were sent home to his wife and children in San Mateo Ixtatan, a remote town near the border of Mexico in the highlands of Huehuetenango.

February 5, 2019. Huehuetenango, Guatemala. In the morning, Eva Maria washes her families clothing, before heading the comedor where she prepares orders for delivery around the town while helping her sons do their homework. Then she changes into formal attire, replete with a ceremonial baton that indicates her place in public office, before heading out for meetings at the Mayor's office for the afternoon as her sons head to school.
